Kimberley’s Homevale High School emerged as champions of the Under-19 Kay Motsepe Schools Cup at the weekend after beating Kakamas High school 1-0 in the final in Upington on Saturday.

The Kimberley school side had started the tournament well with a 4-1 win over Kuruman’s Dibotswa High School. They then clobbered Namakwa champions Steinkopf High in the second group match which set them up nicely for the final against Kakamas High.

For their part, Kakamas High had played twice against Theron High, beating them 1-0 in their opening game and 2-0 in the second group match.

The Namakwa side then advanced to the final where they met Homevale High.

An excited Trevor Geweer, head coach for Homevale High said they, along with Kakamas High, will advance to the competition’s national finals which will take place in Durban from December 5-10.
