Herselman unleashes his big game in regional finals

On Saturday, it was the Northern Cape Sanlam Cancer Challenge Regional Finals – the Kimberley Golf Club (KGC) played host to the women and the MMGC (Magersfontein Memorial Golf Club) hosted the men.

The three club division winners representing the KGC Women were Helena Janse (A), Mikah Poonawassy (B) and Venetia Salo (C). Extraordinary success was enjoyed, respectively they finished first in the A division, first in the B division and runner-up in the C division.

At the MMGC the three club division winners representing the KGC Men were Andries Kori (A), Luchmen Poonawassy (B) and Johan Herselman (C). Johan Herselman once again unveiled his quality of play, successfully kept under wraps save for special occasions, to post a winning 43 individual stableford points.

The regional division winners advance through to the 2017 National Sanlam Cancer Challenge Finals at Sun City in October.

Competitive net results were the order of the day in Saturday’s August Monthly Medal. Despite a triple and a double bogey on successive holes, Allisdair MacKenzie went on to post a net 65 to claim best net overall. In the A division Machiel Cronjé and Dries Mostert were first and second, both on net 66. In the B division Gerhard Roux was first on net 67 and Shane Arthur second on net 68. Pieter Botes recorded the best gross on the day, a 74.

Concurrently, Cronjé, Wedge Crozier, Mike Vigne and Lennie Allen claimed the Senior Monthly outing by age count-out on 15 under net 129. The format was a fourball alliance, medal net, two scores to count.

A two-under-par gross 34 on Friday evening had Andries Kori return 21 points, the top score in the Sun Flamingo Niner. Three players followed on 20 points – Simon Morake, Tenderson Manyetsa and Deuce Leburu. The final prize went to Jaco Janse on 19 points.

Braam Botes, without the assistance of a powerplay, posted the top score in Thursday’s KWV Niner, 20 points. Nico Ross and Kevin Wakeford were second and third, each on 19 points. Both players recorded a big six for a ticket in the draw.

The annual golf fund-raiser to celebrate Women’s Day, hosted by the KGC Women’s Section, attracted 115 players on Wednesday. A betterball stableford, it was Bonola Modise and Andries Kori who returned the best score of the tournament, 46 points. The runners-up were Leon Blom and Eddie Barkhuizen on a count-out on 45 points. Helena Janse and Susan Alexander, the leading women, who lost that count, were third. Flexx Rantoa and Allen Meyers were fourth on 44 points. Several betterball’s returned 42 points. The count placed Johan and Joanie Herselman fifth and Blanco Vinent and Dave Wilson sixth.

The coming week

It is the Konica Minolta Business League on Wednesday. It is the KWV Niner and the 3lst wine draw on Thursday.

On Friday APK Die Kruis hold their golf fund-raiser, a closed tournament. This will be followed by the Sun Flamingo Niner and the snowball draw at R3 200.

On Saturday, the Club will host a standard competition, morning and afternoon times available.

On Sunday, it is the Sealing Solutions League outing, the format singles matchplay.
