Helena holds her nerve to claim 2018 title

Helena Janse, despite a testing 12th hole on Sunday, held onto her opening round lead to take the 2018 Kimberley Ladies Club Championships, her seventh championship title to date. She returned a gross 180 for the two rounds. Susan Alexander and Mikah Poonawassy were second and third, each on 182.

Susan Ferreira won the Bronze Division on 201, with Joanie Herselman the runner-up on 204. Gladys Poonawassy claimed the Copper Division on 50 points, with Annetjie Nel the runner-up on 45 points.

Against the odds team Sealing Solutions notched up 17 points to nil against the Golf Shop in Sunday’s Sealing Solution League outing. Mr. Delivery and Coastal Hire finished all square on eight points each, similarly Lenong and the Eagles finished all square on nine points apiece.

The morning field had visiting golfer Grant Truter the winner on 38 individual stableford points, with Mervyn Haai the runner-up on 37 and Ramon Barlow third on 35 points. In the afternoon field it was Allisdair Mackenzie first on 39 points with Nico Ross the runner-up on 38.

In the Friday Sun Flamingo Niner birthday boy Kariem Anderson was first, alone on 20 points. Four players followed on 19 points – Luchmen Poonawassy, OJ Maimane, Deuce Leburu and Parks Mashabao.

The all-important snowball draw produced no name number result.

A big six at the 15th helped towards a winning 19 points in the Thursday KWV Niner. Tenderson Manyetsa was the runner-up on 18 points, a big six at the second. Dave Wilson was third on 15 points. The winning results, were by normal standards, somewhat rain depleted. The big winner on the day was Nico Ross who collected the 5lt Roodeberg, a fair reflection on the number of big sixes that he had posted.

A combined stableford team event Sean Ralph and Wikus Kok returned 78 points for first place in the Wednesday Konica Minolta League outing. Adrian McLaren and Nigel Page were the runners-up on 76 points. Siewert Wiid and Dries du Plessis were third on 71. The top three players in the individual section were Wikus Kok 44 points (gross 74), Adrian McLaren 41 (gross 75) and Gavin Van Zyl 40 (gross 78).

The coming week

Today it is the KWV Powerplay Niner. Tomorrow sees the Sun Flamingo Niner and the snowball draw which stands at R4 350. On Saturday there is the monthly medal.
