After the departure of Tafel Lager Griquas forward coach Dave Hesketh at the end of last season, the Kimberley team seems to have found a quality replacement in former Blue Bulls Under-19 coach Denzil Frans.

The 43 year-old was born in Mossel Bay and was educated at Erika Primary and Hill Crest Secondary schools. Frans has turned out for South Western Districts in various competitions as well as playing a stint for the Emerging Springboks who toured Wales in 1998. He then went on to represent the Blue Bulls and Boland Cavaliers, playing in a loose forward (flank) position.

Frans was assistant coach to the Bulls in the Super 12 competition in 2005 as well as the Bulls Vodacom Cup coach.

Griqua Rugby Union president Jannie Louw, in welcoming Frans to Griquas, confirmed that the new forwards coach has been appointed until after this season’s Currie Cup Season.
