It’s all systems go for Kimberley’s Youth Rugby Festival as hosts Diamantveld High prepare to receive more than 34 participating teams for the joint Under-13 Coca-Cola Week and Under-16 Grant Khomo Week.

The concurrent youth tournaments start on Monday and will run until Friday July 6 at the Diamantveld High School grounds. The Youth Rugby Festival is part of a slew of such tournaments announced by the SA Rugby Union last week. Entry fee each day for the event is R20 per person.

Diamantveld representative Jaco Dames said they have dispensed with the preliminary preparations to host the annual rugby weeks and all that remained to be done was for the hordes of youth players to arrive on their doorstep. “We’ve cut the grass, positioned the poles and seen to every detail possible,” Dames said.

He added that he was aware of the challenge that came with hosting 34 squads that will be making the trip to the Diamond city for the tournament.
