The club now advances to the South African Football Association’s national play-offs for the third tier ABC Motsepe League. These play-offs are scheduled to take place in Mpumalanga at the end of June and beginning of July.

Last weekend’s championship victory caps a season-long effort by Hungry Lions to return to the play-offs again after missing out last year due to the onset of the Covid pandemic.

Hungry Lions ended the current season with a total 16 league wins which made for a 40+ goal difference.

On the other hand NC Professionals subdued the western stream of the provincial league with 13 victories, three drawn matches and 40+ goal difference.

Lions were at some point also contenders in the lucrative Nedbank Cup competition, but they were eliminated in the last 16 round by Jomo Cosmos.

The team counts among their football advisors the retired Bloemfontein Celtic player Moses Spandeel who has been with the outfit since his retirement from professional football in 2018.

Hungry Lions representative Allister Davids was not available for comment.
