GALESHEWE is gearing up for an exciting and impactful day of soccer and health awareness as the Provincial Council on AIDS and Networking AIDS Community of Southern Africa (NACOSA) partners with the Sol Plaatje Masters Football League to host a soccer tournament on Saturday, November 23.

The event, which will take place at the Galeshewe Stadium and Galeshewe Artificial Pitch, is more than just a thrilling eight-team soccer competition. It is part of a broader wellness programme aimed at encouraging men, particularly those aged between 40 and 54, to access critical health services.

According to a report by the Human Science Research Council, men in this age group are among the least likely to seek health services, contributing to a rise in new HIV infections.

With the tournament targeting the Sol Plaatje Masters League, which boasts over 1,100 registered players, the event organisers hope to make a significant impact. The league represents an active, close-knit community of mature players, making it an ideal platform to spread the day’s key message: “Know Your Status”.

Beyond the health initiatives, participants have plenty to look forward to on the field. All eight teams will receive brand-new soccer kits, and the best performers will be rewarded with trophies and medals.

But to create a tournament like this, joining hands with partners is a must, and this year the following companies and departments came on board to make an impact. Aurum, Pathways to change, grassroots edge, Batho Pele Ngo, District office Department of Health, Provincial Department of Health, Department of Social Development, NACOSA, and the Provincial Council On AIDS Secretariat (Office of the Premier).

During the week, the draw took place at the AR Abass Stadium to decide which teams would be facing off on the Saturday.

Here are the draw results and fixtures.
