WHILE the battle for a spot in the Kimberley Basketball Super League play-offs reach fever pitch, another positive spinoff has seen the skills of teams and individual players on a steady upward curve.

This was demonstrated when in a recent game, fans were left astounded, as the Greenpoint Wizzards made a resounding statement by defeating the Greenpoint Panthers with a massive 91-12 margin.

The Greenpan Wolves also displayed their dominance by overpowering the Galeshewe Rebels 55-24 and the Super Bulls made a triumphant return to the winners circle by triumphing over a stubborn Saints team in a hard-fought 42-36 victory.

Meanwhile, as excitement continues to build in the league, this upcoming weekend marks the inclusion of the Under-18 division, paving the way for a potential expansion next year to include a well-represented Under-18 and Under-16 league division.

This development promises to further foster the growth and talent of young basketball players in the region.

The Province’s Under-18s are ready to make the step up after learning some valuable lessons at the recently-concluded National Under-18 Championships.

Sitsile did not hesitate to extend his gratitude to all those who made it possible for the teams to proudly represent their province at the championships.

On behalf of the Association, Sitsile extended heartfelt gratitude to the Northern Cape Sports Academy, the Ministry of Youth, Women, and People with Disabilities, MEC Blennies, Cupido Transport for their dedication in ensuring the secure transportation of the young athletes to and from Bloemfontein, DSAC School Sports for their provision of the playing apparel, and above all, the parents for their unwavering support of their children.

It is indeed exciting news that fans can look forward to the continued growth of basketball in the region fueled by the dedication of the players, the support of their families, and the unwavering commitment of organisations and individuals involved in promoting the sport.

With the league approaching a thrilling phase and the looming introduction of Youth leagues in the near future, the sport is set to thrive in the Northern Cape.
