Kimberley’s Diamond Oval was a hive of activity at the weekend as the provincial leg of the KFC Mini Cricket festival got under way with a large number of boys and girls running around in the park supervised by Northern Cape Cricket minders.

The festival is part of a national cricket development programme which is celebrating 40 years in the game. This season, the KFC Mini-Cricket programme returned to the field with this mega festival which took place across the country.

According to the festival promotion material, this season’s return of the programme coincided with the 14th anniversary of KFC’s sponsorship of the junior cricket development programme. The programme primarily focuses on keeping children engaged in after-school activities.

It teaches them not only the fundamentals of cricket but also helps them explore and develop life and social skills.

KFC Marketing Manager Brand and Purpose, Andra Ferreria Nel said at the weekend, “The KFC Mini-Cricket Mega festival was a great example of how sport creates a platform to level the playing field for our children and unite communities across the country.

“We are proud to be a partner in cricket that affords our youth an opportunity to play the game they love and gives them a level playing field to achieve their dreams.”
