The event aims to tap into the emerging black overlanding market, introducing them to activities like camping, fishing, hunting, boating, and more.
This weekend, from September 22nd to 24th, Kimberley will come alive with the much-anticipated 4×4 Lifestyle and Outdoor Expo, a groundbreaking event set to thrill both seasoned overlanding enthusiasts and newcomers to the outdoor adventure scene. Organised by Black Boy Adventures, this expo aims to unite diverse communities through a shared passion for outdoor exploration.
Aslam Mxolisi Tawana, the Managing Director of Black Boy Adventures, emphasised the significance of bringing such an event to central South Africa, stating, “In central South Africa, there is no 4×4 overlanding and outdoor lifestyle show that is being hosted, and as a person involved in this industry, I thought it would be a good thing to host such an event in our city.
“One should not forget that Kimberley is in the centre of South Africa.”
The choice of location for the Expo, the township of Galeshewe, carries special meaning. Tawana explained, “The reasons are twofold: firstly, to expose the emerging black market to the industry as a tourism market and to learn to have fun in the African Bushveld away from traditional vacation areas; and secondly, to introduce the established white overlanding community to our township and the Kasi culture we have in Galeshewe. To create some sort of cultural integration while enjoying the exhibition of the various facets of outdoor life and overlanding.”
The event aims to tap into the emerging black overlanding market, introducing them to activities like camping, fishing, hunting, boating, and more. According to Tawana, “It’s still a long way to go, but we can see a steady uptake of these offerings as a result of our actions in pursuing the black overlanding and outdoor markets.”
The Northern Cape, known for its rugged terrain, is a prime destination for overlanders. Black Boy Adventures also plays a vital role in marketing the province’s tourism destinations through social media platforms, attracting adventure seekers from across South Africa and beyond.
Visitors to the Expo can look forward to a wide array of exhibitions, from companies selling aftermarket overlanding gear like rooftop tents, suspension, bull bars, and tents to those offering guided tours to destination places within the Northern Cape. Food, beverages, and entertainment for kids will also be available, making it a family-friendly event.
Black Boy Adventures envisions this Expo becoming an annual highlight on the tourism calendar of the Northern Cape and South Africa. They extend their gratitude to various supporters, including 4×4 Mega World, local Kimberley companies like PC Struwig Panel Beaters and Spraypainters, Tyres & More, Barkly Road Muslim Butchery, South African National Parks, and the Premier of the Northern Cape, Dr. Zamani Saul, for their invaluable support.
In a final call to action, Tawana invites everyone in Kimberley, the Northern Cape, the Free State, and the North West to come and experience this unique overlanding and outdoor lifestyle extravaganza right in their own backyard. Adult entry is just R50, while children under 12 can join the adventure for R30.
So, if you’re a camping enthusiast or just eager to explore the world of overlanding while celebrating cultural integration, don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity at the 4×4 Lifestyle and Outdoor Expo in Kimberley this weekend!
