THE KIMBERLEY Sub-Districts Singles 2025 event, held over the past two weekends, proved to be a thrilling spectacle, packed with intense competition, surprise upsets, and top-tier performances from both seasoned players and rising stars.

In the men’s competition, CP Mathewson emerged as the 2025 champion after a series of intense matchups, where he outplayed a tough field of competitors. Mathewson’s title was well-earned after navigating through the sectional play and the play-off rounds.

Lappies Labuschagne, a formidable opponent throughout the tournament, claimed the runner-up spot after an impressive campaign pushing Mathewson to his limits in the final.

Shaun Campher finished strongly in the battle for third place with consistent and precise bowling. Meanwhile, Driaan van Niekerk, who demonstrated excellent technique and strategy, claimed the fourth-place finish, and Freddy du Plessis rounded out the top five.

Du Plessis’ efforts earned him the added reward of qualifying for the Northern Cape Singles Championships, set to take place next weekend.

In the women’s division, the competition was just as fierce. Veteran player Geraldine Moodley, with her wealth of experience and poise under pressure, claimed the title of Women’s Champion for 2025.

Her composure in the final round ensured her victory, despite the relentless challenge from young talent Mari Swart, who finished as the runner-up. Swart’s performance was commendable, proving she is one to watch in the future of bowls.

Bytjie du Plessis took third place with a solid display of skill and focus, while Helena Jansen and Nadine Dames claimed fourth and fifth, respectively. All five ladies have earned their spots in the Northern Cape Bowls Singles Championships, set for next weekend.

Ultimately though, the Kimberley Sub-Districts Singles 2025 would not have been possible without the exceptional support from Beaconsfield Park and Sol Plaatje, who hosted the event.

Their fantastic facilities, warm hospitality, and well-maintained greens provided the perfect backdrop for the competition.
