Delport’s best ever gross at KGC secures first place for his team

League Foursomes, the ultimate test in matchplay, was the format for the Sunday Sealing Solutions League. In the A Section, the Golf Shop pipped Coastal Hire 10 points to nine; while the Eagles had the better of C-Pac 12-4. In the B Section, Lenong beat Sealing Solutions 14-5. And, Mr. Delivery delivered it to the Motley Crew, 17-1.

Allen Grootboom returned 43 individual stableford points to take the annual Wesley Methodist Church Golf Fund-raiser on Saturday. Flexx Rantoa was the runner-up on 41 points, with Pieter Groenewald third on 40. Three players followed on 39 – Christo Swanepoel, Lourens de Villiers and Nico Ross. Andries Kori and Keith Brown, each on 38 points, were seventh and eighth.

The final prizes were presented to Johnny Higgs and Barend Burger, both players on 37 points.

A sandy at the par three 14th gave Gladys Poonawassy an eight-pointer on her way to 24 points for the round and her very first win in the KWV Powerplay Niner on Thursday. Nico Ross, who recorded a six-pointer at the 15th, was the runner-up on 22 points. Bonolo Modise was third on 21, with no powerplay required.

Outside the prizewinners Ian and Mike Kidson each recorded a big six at the 17th, while Herbie Woodbridge boasted an eight-pointer at the 16th.

Wednesday’s Konica Minolta Business League belonged in large part to Gerhard Delport as he carded his best gross ever at the KGC, a five over par 77. His 44 stableford points not only gave him a clear win in the individual section, but, also contributed significantly to the Vodashop Team’s first place in the betterball section in which he, together with Sean Ralph, returned 48 points.

In the individual section Siewert Wiid and Andries Kori were second and third, each on 41 points. While in the team section a count-out on 46 points placed Noise Boys, represented by Siewert Wiid and Dries du Plessis, second, with Burger Brokers 2, represented by Nigel Page and Charl Olivier, third.

The Coming Week

Tomorrow it is the Leon’s House of Liquor IPS, while on Thursday the course is closed to the annual GBADS Golf Day.

On Friday, it is the NC Cricket Charity Golf Day, and on Saturday William Pescod School holds their 130th Anniversary Golf Day.
