Northern Cape Cricket (NCC) yesterday won the toss and opted to field on day one of their CSA three-Day Provincial Cup first class match against Border at Buffalo Park, but they didn’t get much cricket in as play was intermittently interrupted by rain.

Not much play took place as the rain interfered with play and the covers were drawn around the twelfth over. Play resumed at around midday and Border got to 84/2 by the 28.6 over before rain again stopped play close to lunchtime. The umpires called the day’s play off when the rain showed no signs of clearing.

NCC are hard put to shake off a lingering perception that they are poor travellers. They yet to register a win against any opponent outside of their home territory. However, rain is predicted to continue on the remaining days of the match with welcome thundershowers likely to soak the Eastern Cape over the weekend.
