KEMPTON Park CC claims victory at the 3rd National Club Championships in Kimberley
The Veterans Cricket Association of South Africa recently hosted the third National Club Championships in Kimberley; the competition ran from August 29-31.
The tournament brought together nine of the country’s top cricket clubs, all league champions of their respective provinces and regions. After a series of intense matches, Kempton Park Cricket Club emerged as the tournament champions.
The competing clubs were Bohemian CC (Border, 2022 Club Champions), Northville CC (Eastern Province), Stellenbosch Strikers (Boland), Primrose CC (Western Province), Old Edwardians CC (Lions), Phobians CC (Titans), King Cetshwayo CC (Dolphins), Kempton Park CC (Eastern Storm), and the host club, Black Diamonds CC (Northern Cape).
The tournament, which took place over three days, saw teams divided into two groups. Group A featured clubs from the Dolphins, Lions, Northern Cape, and Western Province, while Group B featured Border, Eastern Province, Eastern Storm, Boland, and Titans. Matches were held across several venues, including the Sol Plaatje University Ovals, Country Club B, and Hoërskool Diamantveld.
Throughout the competition, the teams played in a fast-paced T20 format, providing spectators with thrilling cricket action. The final match took place at Hoërskool Diamantveld, where Kempton Park CC secured their victory after a series of impressive performances.
The tournament was generously sponsored by New Vaal Mercedes Kimberley, Fuso, and Cell C. As part of the prize, Kempton Park CC was awarded a 25-inch cylinder pitch mower, sponsored by Professional Lawnmowers. Previous winners, Bohemian CC (2022) and Irene Cricket Club (2023), had also received this valuable piece of equipment.
Liquid refreshments for the teams were provided by Devils Peak Breweries and Bevco, while Pitchvision offered live streaming of all matches on the CSA YouTube channel, allowing cricket fans from across the country to follow the action.
