THE VISITING Eastern Cape Inyathi team set their hosts a relatively challenging target of 243 after they were put in to bat after the NC Heat won the toss in their midweek CSA One Day Cup clash at the Diamond Oval on Wednesday.
At the end of their innings the Eastern Cape team had racked up 242/7 in perfect weather conditions in Kimberley. There were slightly overcast conditions with the sun behind scattered clouds in the early part of the morning but the sun came out blazing as the day progressed towards the lunch hour.
Opener Marco Marais top scored for the visitors with a patient, but solid 65 (103 balls, 7x4s), and there were also good contributions form Nonelela Yikha (41), a whirlwind, unbeaten 32 from Joshua Dodd off just 27 deliveries and Mncedisi Malika, the No.2 batsman contributed 31.
The pick of the NC Heat bowlers was that man Evan Jones, usually a wizard with the bat, with his 3/52. Johan van Dyk (1/33), Ernest Kemm (1/33) and Andrew Rasemene (1/51) were the other wicket-takers.
The dismissal of Jason Niemand was a big blow for the Inyathi as he had contributed a solid 88 in their last game against the Tuskers just three days ago.
