“Northern Cape Cricket is very proud to once again host the prestigious Future Cup on behalf of Cricket South Africa”
Cricket lovers in Kimberley will be enjoying a bumper T20 season this April.
The city’s residents will once again be treated to some thrills when Northern Cape Cricket (NCC) hosts the Future Cup Cricket Tournament at the Diamond Oval starting today. The action runs through till Sunday when the final will be contested.
Three teams will face off at Kimberley’s world-class cricket stadium: the University Sports Students Association (USSA), a SA Rural team and the SA Franchise Academy. Future Cup games are Twenty20 matches, so there is bound to be non-stop action throughout the weekend.
The Future Cup, the brainchild of Wendell Bossenger and Max Jordaan, was started back in 2010. The idea was to give an opportunity to the top young cricketers in the country to play at an international stadium under lights
Eugene Jacobs, the CEO of Northern Cape Cricket, told the DFA that it was exciting to be involved with this tournament again.
“Northern Cape Cricket is very proud to once again host the prestigious Future Cup on behalf of Cricket South Africa,” Jacobs said. “This tournament brings together the cream of this country’s young talent to the Diamond Oval.”
He added that the players playing in this tournament are the country’s future stars, and invited the public, cricket clubs, schools and lovers of the game to head to the Diamond Oval, reminding the public that entrance to the stadium is free.
Jacobs said that the city is set for quite a bit of T20 action during the month of April.
The thrills start with the Future Cup and moves straight on to the CSA T20 Challenge when the VKB Knights take on some other star-studded franchise teams.
