City bowlers get set for National Championships

The National Championship takes place in Hermanus in September.

Four players from the Northern Cape Bowls (NCB) conference were this past weekend selected to represent the Province at the Bowls South Africa Under-30 National Championship which will take place in Hermanus, Western Cape on the week of September 21-24.

The foursome was initially part of a team that was invited to take part in the NC Bowls Under-30 Masters competition which was held at the Beaconsfield Park Bowls Club last weekend.

Among them were Charles-Peter Mathewson, Scott Elliott, Wihan Smit, Driaan van Niekerk, Jeandre van Zyl, Japie Steyn, Cobus van Heerden, Johanna Swart, Kieran Kelly, Brentino Abrahams, Kenneth Penderis and Raven Abrahams.

After two days of singles play, Charles-Peter Mathewson captured gold, while Scott Elliott took silver and Wihan Smit bronze. Driaan van Niekerk finished fourth.
