The Bulls Daisies sent a clear message to the rest of the Women’s Premier Division as they dismantled DHL Western Province 69-0 at Loftus Versfeld B in Pretoria on Saturday.
In a weekend filled with action, the Sanlam Boland Dames, Sharks Women, and Border Ladies also secured vital wins in the second round of the competition.
Daisies Stamp Authority Over WP
Following back-to-back titles in 2023 and 2024, the Bulls Daisies appear to have taken their game to a new level this season. Their complete dominance over last year’s runners-up saw them cross the try line 10 times, with an additional penalty try awarded in their favour.
It was a one-sided affair as the Pretoria-based side overwhelmed WP in all facets of the game. Injuries and fatigue hindered the visitors’ defensive efforts, allowing the Daisies to exploit gaps at will.
Despite WP’s best attempts to attack from all angles, they could not break through the resolute defence of the home team. This dominant display by the Daisies signals their intent to chase another championship title.
Sharks Women Edge Free State in Thriller
The Sharks Women bounced back from their opening-round loss with a well-earned 36-30 victory over Free State Women at Hollywoodbets Kings Park 2. The home side took a 22-15 lead into the break and maintained their advantage throughout the match.
Free State launched a spirited comeback in the second half and came within a converted try of an upset win. However, the Sharks’ composed game management ensured they secured their first win of the season.
Border Ladies Remain Unbeaten
In East London, the Border Ladies continued their fine form with a solid 27-12 victory over the Golden Lions Women at Baysville High School. Holding a narrow 10-7 lead at halftime, Border delivered a stronger second-half performance to put the match beyond doubt.
An early brace of tries set the tone for the hosts, but the Lions hit back when speedster Thobile Msizazwe finished off a well-worked move in the right-hand corner. A conversion by Klarissa van der Linden cut Border’s lead to three points.
However, Border pulled away in the latter stages, with key players Aphiwe Ngwevu and Eloise Webb adding their names to the score sheet once again.
Boland Dames Cruise Past EP Queens
The Sanlam Boland Dames delighted their home supporters at Boland Stadium in Wellington with a dominant 59-5 win over EP Queens. Scrumhalf Felicia Jacobs starred with a hat trick, helping her side to a commanding 26-0 lead at halftime.
A last-minute change to their midfield pairing – due to the withdrawal of Veroeshka Grain –initially disrupted the Dames’ fluency. However, once settled, they dictated proceedings and never looked back.
EP Queens managed to salvage some pride late in the match, with Ruzanne George scoring a consolation try.
