Bokkie Tournament a huge success say organisers

The recent Under-23 Bokkie Tournament in Orania was an absolute blast, according to Rev. Peter Stans, the head of Afrikaner Volks Sports.

From March 21 to 23, the small town of Orania welcomed a lively crowd of sports enthusiasts, including players and fans from all over, totalling around 1,300 attendees. It was a weekend packed with thrilling sports action and vibrant cultural celebrations.

The atmosphere in the town was electric as 250 players and 63 coaches from various parts of the country descended upon the town for the tournament. The streets were bustling with excitement as teams geared up to compete in a range of sports.

This year’s tournament saw the inclusion of Woemahokkie teams for the first time, adding an extra element of excitement and competition. Despite being newcomers to the event, these teams brought their A-game and added to the overall spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship.

Rev. Stans expressed his delight at the positive reception for the Woemahokkie teams. He noted the incredible spirit among the players, highlighting the fun and competitive energy they brought to the tournament.

As for the champions! In the netball category, Northern-Transvaal North emerged victorious, with the Free State team coming in as runners-up.

On the rugby field, Orania took home the top honours, while Northern-Transvaal North secured the second spot.

In the Woemahokkie category, Vaaldriehoek claimed the title, with Northern-Transvaal North finishing as runners-up.

The excitement didn’t end there! The Miss Sparkle Bokkie pageant added an extra layer of glamour to the event, with Jessica Bornman from Orania Model School serving as one of the judges and her husband, Eric, as the host. The competition showcased the talent and beauty of the participants, adding to the festive atmosphere of the weekend.

Special recognition was given to outstanding players, including MC Malan from Northern-Transvaal North for rugby, Vera de Beer from Northern-Transvaal North for netball, and Loné Blignaut from Vaaldriehoek for Woemahokkie. Each of them received a well-deserved prize of R5,000 for their exceptional performances.

In addition, Griekwas was celebrated for winning the prestigious Spirit Cup, symbolising their unwavering enthusiasm and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
