These achievements not only highlight the athletes’ talents but also the quality of AVS sports and the dedication of the players and their coaches, says Reverend Peter Stans, CEO of Afrikaner Volkseie Sport (AVS).
Sevens rugby success
From December 1-10, AVS national Sevens Rugby teams (Under-14 to Under-23) toured Spain, currently ranked second in the 2024/25 Sevens Rugby Tournament Series.The results spoke for themselves.
The Under-14 Duikers team dominated their matches, securing victories against Under-15 teams with scores like 26-0 and 14-5. They achieved impressive wins, such as 61-0 and 62-0 against L’Hospitalet and 31-12 and 40-7 at the La Villa tournament.
Their final match ended with a 24-12 win over La Horta.
Despite an initial 22-25 loss, the Under-16 Presidents Team rebounded to claim wins against Under-17 teams, including 43-7 and 39-5 victories over L’Hospitalet.
Their tour concluded with a commanding 33-5 and 43-7 triumph over La Horta.
Playing against Under-18 and Under-20 teams, the Under-19 Bokkies excelled, achieving a notable 51-0 win over Murcia’s Under-18 side.
In a tight series against Poland’s national team, they displayed resilience, winning two out of four matches.
Meanwhile, the Under-23 National Bokkies team showcased exceptional skill with wins like 40-15 against Sant Cugat, where Max Williamson earned Player of the Match honours, and 33-14 with Wiehan Nel shining.
They dominated L’Hospitalet with 57-0 and 50-0 victories.
Netball stars shine
AVS Under-13 and Under-15 and the Under-17 Fastball Bokkies and Under-23 Netball Bokkies netball teams displayed excellent form in both Namibia and Hong Kong.
In Namibia, the Under-15 President’s Fastball team remained unbeaten with victories over Delta, Walvis Bay Private School, and Windhoek High School.
During their tour of Hong Kong, the Under-17 team secured wins against Valley (28-12), Simba Club (38-17), and Hangtang (47-17).
Meanwhile, the Under-23 team impressed with a 28-21 victory over Valley Club and a 34-31 win against Hong Kong’s Under-21 national team.
Cricket achievements
The AVS Under-19 cricket team toured India, competing against elite academies. They overcame Titans Academy by 26 runs but narrowly lost to Cricket Academy of Pathans in a high-scoring match (270/10 vs 273/6).
Their tour concluded with a final match against a local club.
Celebrating excellence
All teams have returned home safely, with their achievements showcasing the strength and dedication of AVS athletes. Reverend Stans reflected proudly on these accomplishments, saying, “These performances elevate Afrikaner sports on the international stage and inspire young athletes across the country.”
