GET READY archery enthusiasts because the Northern Cape 3D archery scene is gearing up for an adrenaline-packed start to the 2024 season.

Archers from across the region are eagerly preparing to take part in the Northern Cape League, a thrilling trilogy of events that will culminate in the highly-anticipated Northern Cape 3Di Championships on August 31.

The archery action will start with a resounding bang when leg one of the Northern Cape League, hosted by the esteemed Diamond Archery Club, kicks off at the Gumtree Lodge in Kimberley on February 17 and 18.

Local archers are polishing their bows and arrows as they prepare to engage in a fierce, yet friendly, competition that promises excitement and camaraderie. What’s more, the event has drawn participants from as far afield as Nelspruit and Mpumalanga, adding a touch of regional rivalry to the mix.

The archers will converge on Gumtree Lodge, a picturesque setting with a challenging course that spans 800 metres and is adorned with 20 lifelike animal targets strategically placed to test the archers’ accuracy and precision.

The competition will be a test of concentration, strategy and skill as archers navigate the course over four intense hours.

Adding sizzle to the spectacle, BHG Aluminium has stepped up to sponsor a lamb spit braai, which will provide archers with a delicious reprieve to refuel and share stories of arrow-slinging prowess.

Spectators have also been encouraged to join the festivities and to soak up the excitement and cheer on their favourite archers as they tackle the challenging terrain.

With the event set to begin promptly at 8am, fans will have to set their alarms in order to avoid missing a moment of the archery action.

Whether you’re a seasoned archer or just curious about this dynamic sport, Gumtree Lodge promises a weekend of family-friendly fun.

But that’s not the only arrow in the early-season quiver, with some of the Northern Cape’s top archers gearing up for the National Triple Crown event on February 3 and 4 at the Wildcrete Range near Centurion in Pretoria.

This event marks a crucial step in the Grand Slam series, building anticipation for the National Championships in November.

Following their debut with 14 archers at the Nationals in 2023, Northern Cape 3Di Archery is eager to expand its presence on the national stage, drawing attention to the region’s growing prowess in the sport.

So, as the archery bows are strung and the arrows are nocked, the Northern Cape 3D archery community invites you to join the excitement, witness the skill and celebrate the spirit of competition.

This season is set to be a bullseye and you won’t want to miss a single shot!
