Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams is confident in his side’s readiness as they prepare for a crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Lesotho on Friday evening at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium (6pm kick-off).

South Africa head into this round of qualifiers sitting firmly at the top of Group C with 13 points, five clear of second-placed Rwanda after six matches. The strong position gives them a valuable cushion as they look to edge closer to securing qualification.

Williams expressed his satisfaction with the team’s preparation and believes they are primed to produce the performance needed.

“The preparations have been good and all the new guys have settled in,” Williams said during the pre-match press conference.

“We know how important this game is and what it can do for our qualification for the World Cup. This is the next step towards our objective of getting to the World Cup. Everything has been going well, and we are looking forward to doing the business tomorrow.”

Coach Hugo Broos has named a squad with a handful of fresh faces for the next two fixtures — including the upcoming clash against powerhouses Nigeria — with several regulars unavailable.

Williams praised how smoothly the new players have adjusted and backed them to contribute if called upon.

“That’s key, and it’s important for them to adapt as quickly as possible because we don’t have much time. We’ve seen the work they’ve put in this week; everyone has adapted, and you can see the happiness and excitement.

“The hard work that the guys have put in this week has been amazing. The new guys have settled in very well, they’ve taken the challenge with both hands, and hopefully some of them can get the opportunity to play and help our beloved country qualify.”
