THE COLD may linger in the morning air, but the winter afternoons have been perfect for outdoor activity, and the spirit of the Kimberley Harriers Road Running Club remains as warm and steady as ever.

On Tuesday, July 15, a growing group of runners and walkers took to the streets once more, soaking up the city’s winter sunshine with distances ranging from a brisk 4km run to a determined 8km walk. With 17 participants this week – up from last week’s 10 – it’s clear that the momentum is building again.

For some, like Cornelia Cloete and Ria Janse van Vuuren, this week’s times reflected small but satisfying improvements over their previous runs. Others, such as Alfonso Jantjies, set a blazing pace from the front, while Farieda Dean, back on the road after a slower outing last week, showed encouraging consistency.

Even the walking group saw a shift, with Sammy Louw trading last week’s 2km route for a full 4km effort – alongside Christo and Naledi Louw and several others – while Doreen McLaren and Anita de Villiers paced out a steady 8km.

So, whether chasing a PB or just enjoying the rhythm of breath and footfall, the Kimberley Harriers once again proved that showing up is half the victory.

Next Tuesday, the road will be waiting. So will the sunshine. And maybe, just maybe, a few more runners too.
