A 33-year-old Mpumalanga man accused of murdering his 10-year-old daughter is expected to reappear before the Mkhuhlu Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
The suspect, identified as Nkosinathi Chauke, was arrested on Monday after the child’s body was discovered on the roadside between Cunningmore A and B. According to police, Chauke had collected the girl from her grandmother’s home in Cunningmore, claiming he was taking her to buy clothes. She was never seen alive again.
Police and emergency services found the child lying on the ground, and she was declared dead at the scene.
A murder case was opened, and Chauke was swiftly tracked down in the Masoyi area following a community tip-off. He was arrested on the same day and made his first court appearance on 23 September. The case was postponed to 25 September for further proceedings.
Meanwhile, acting provincial police commissioner in Mpumalanga, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, has condemned the heinous murder of the girl. He also welcomed the swift arrest of the alleged killer.
“Fathers are meant to protect their children, not harm them. This is a heartbreaking case that must be met with the full might of the law,” said Mkhwanazi.
The case continues.
