DURBAN – While jogging along the Sibaya Walking Trails in uMdloti on Saturday morning, a woman was attacked by an axe-wielding man who attempted to rob her.

Marshall Security managing director Tyron Powell said the woman fought off the attacker, who dropped the axe and fled.

Armed with a description of the suspect, reaction officers began searching the bushes for him.

“After an hour-long manhunt in the area, the suspect was spotted walking on South Beach Road and was immediately apprehended by our team members,” said Powell.

According to Powell, the victim was contacted and arrived at the scene, where she identified the suspect.

“The victim also desired to press charges against the suspect and the SAPS were notified accordingly,” he said.

Powell said members of the Durban North Rapid Response Team took the suspect to the Durban North police station.

He said the suspect faced charges of attempted armed robbery.
