SOUTH Africa has a new multi-millionaire after a lucky lady claimed the Lotto jackpot of over R103 million for the October 30 draw. This extraordinary prize marks the second largest in the history of the National Lottery and brings life-altering wealth to the winner.

The winner, a frequent Lotto participant, chose the Quick Pick option through her banking app, wagering R160 on what would ultimately be a ticket to incredible fortune.

In line with standard procedures for large wins over R249,000, her bank contacted her on Thursday morning, October 31, to deliver the stunning news. The next day, Friday, November 1, she came forward to claim her prize at Ithuba’s regional office, where her winning ticket was validated.

Winnings below R249,000 are automatically paid into the winner’s account.

Ithuba CEO Charmaine Mabuza commented on the significance of this win, sharing the company’s excitement over the life-changing opportunity it presents.

“We often speak about our jackpots being life-changing, but the gravity of this statement may be lost to many people. It is almost impossible to quantify what an amount as big as R103 million means to an ordinary person and the impact it has on their life. The mental and emotional shift it requires is the reason we provide trauma and financial counselling for all winners of above R50,000,” said Mabuza.

The winner, who told Ithuba that she plans to purchase an entirely new wardrobe, is already taking steps to adjust to her new life. As part of Ithuba’s value-added support, she consulted with financial and emotional counsellors to help her navigate the changes and responsibilities that come with such a windfall.

“I have always been hopeful that one day I would win a major jackpot. When I received the call from the bank, I burst into tears. My daughter is the first person I told,” said the winner.

This R103 million jackpot now ranks as the second-highest Lotto win in the game’s history, trailing only behind the R110 million prize shared by four winners in 2018. It also surpasses the recent R100 million jackpot claimed by a Pretoria resident in September this year.

All winnings are tax-free and, for verified claims, will be processed within 72 hours. Ithuba has reminded all participants to keep their tickets safe and encourages players with physical tickets to write their name and ID number on the back for security.

As always, participants must be 18 years or older to play.
