Cape Town – One of the two women injured in the fire at Amdenhof flats in Bellville has died, while the other female patient is in a stable condition.

A fire broke out at the building on the corner of Barnard and Voortrekker Roads in Bellville at 11H54 on Monday. EMS had then arrived on scene at 12H07 where they were joined by Fire Services as well as SAPS.

Western Cape Government Health Emergency Medical Services spokesperson Robert Daniels had previously confirmed that two adult females, as well as an adult male, have been rushed to Tygerberg Hospital in critical conditions with severe burn wounds as well as smoke inhalation and Polly trauma as one of the females jumped from the third floor of the building in order to escape.

The body of a young boy was also recovered from the scene.

“Sadly, one of the female patients passed away last night due to the extent of her injuries after numerous medical interventions proved unsuccessful,” said a spokesperson from Tygerberg Hospital.

“We extend our condolences to her family during this time of bereavement. The other female patient is in a stable condition and her baby was discharged after medical staff were happy with the medical observations carried out.”

SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana had confirmed that circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation.
