One person died and three other people were injured when a bakkie and truck collided on the R705 outside of Jacobsdal, in the Free State on Wednesday, paramedics said.
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said that paramedics arrived on the scene to find the bakkie in the middle of the intersection while the truck had come to a stop on the side of the road.
“Upon closer inspection, paramedics found the lifeless body of a man lying in the rear of the bakkie. Unfortunately, the man had already succumbed to his numerous injuries. Nothing could be done for him and he was declared dead. Three other men, all from the bakkie, were assessed and found to have sustained only minor injuries,” he said.
He said that paramedics treated the patients before they were transported to the Kimberley Provincial hospital for further care.
“The driver of the truck was fortune in escaping any injury.”
Meiring said the cause of the accident was not known and would be investigated by local authorities.
