Injured by flying gas cylinder
JOHANNESBURG – A 14-year-old teenager who was hit by a gas cylinder on Ontdekkers Road in Newlands, west of Johannesburg, has been admitted to hospital in a critical condition.
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said the freak accident happened on Sunday evening.
“ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at 17h45 to find the young girl lying on the sidewalk. Assessment showed that the girl had sustained serious injuries to both of her legs and was in a critical condition,” he said.
The teenager was transported to Helen Joseph Provincial hospital after being treated with advanced life support interventions on the scene.
“It is understood that men had been working on the cylinder across the road at a scrapyard. A problem occurred with the cylinder, causing it to fly across the road and strike the girl,” Meiring said.
