Eleven-year-old Bloemfontein boy killed in shooting incident


It is believed that that the boy died in an apparent attack on his home. His father was seriously injured in the incident.

BLOEMFONTEIN, September 21 (ANA) – An 11-year-old boy was shot dead and his father was seriously wounded in an apparent attack at their home in Batho in Bloemfontein on Friday night, paramedics said.

At about 10pm, paramedics from ER24 were called to the Batho Police Station where they found the man with a serious gunshot wound to his abdomen, ER24 spokesman Werner Vermaak said on Saturday.

He was treated on the scene and rushed to hospital. The man’s wife explained that a gunman had entered their home and opened fire at them. She indicated that their 11-year-old son was killed at home.

ER24 paramedics sent an emergency vehicle to their home where they found the lifeless body of the young boy. He had sustained a gunshot wound to his chest. The exact circumstances surrounding the shooting were not yet known, Vermaak said.
