DEPUTY President Paul Mashatile is “doing well”, after he was rushed to the hospital on Saturday afternoon after collapsing on stage, the Presidency announced.
“While delivering his keynote address, the deputy president felt light-headed due to the heat and was immediately attended to by his medical team,” said Keith Khoza, Mashatile’s acting spokesperson.
“We can confirm that the deputy president has received the necessary medical care and is doing well.”
Mashatile collapsed while attending the N’wamitwa Day Celebrations at the Valoyi Cultural Village in Greater Tzaneen, Mopani District, Limpopo.
The SABC News reported late on Saturday that Limpopo Premier Phophi Ramathuba had assured the public that Mashatile was fine following the incident.
Mashatile was speaking in his role as chairperson of the Presidential Task Team, addressing the issue of traditional and Khoisan leaders.
Ramathuba stated that there was no need for public concern and suspected heat exhaustion as the cause of the collapse.
The SABC also reported that security officers and emergency officials quickly escorted Mashatile off the stage, though Ramathuba did not disclose where he was treated.
