The North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria yesterday officially found self-confessed child rapist Nicholas Ninow guilty of two counts of rape, defeating the ends of justice and possession of an illegal substance. He was found not guilty on assault charges.

Ninow raped the eight-year-old girl at the Dros restaurant’s toilet last year in September in Pretoria, Silverton. The girl was seven years old at the time.

According to Ninow, 21, he raped the girl after she walked in on him while he was in the women’s bathroom using drugs.

But, during closing arguments last week, State prosecutor Dorah Ngobeni questioned Ninow’s explanation. She said that was not the version the girl had given to the court in her evidence in camera.

Judge Mokhine Mosopa rejected Ninow’s version of events. He found that Ninow followed the witness into the bathroom to sexually assault her.
