JOHANNESBURG – Police Minister Bheki Cele will be in Finetown, Ennerdale, on Monday afternoon, after Saturday evening’s deadly shooting that claimed the lives of six people.

Police reports say four suspects attempted to rob street vendors selling chicken feet.

“The vendors allegedly resisted and threw stones at the suspects and their vehicle’s rear window was damaged. The suspects drove off and returned on foot, armed with firearms; they then (opened fire on) the vendors and bystanders (hitting) 11 people. Six succumbed to their injuries and five people are recovering in hospital,” said the SAPS.

Cele will on Monday receive a full report from Gauteng police commissioner Elias Mawela on the shooting incident as well as overall policing in the area.

The police have confirmed that the provincial Serious and Violent Crimes, Murder and Robbery unit is following leads to trace and arrest the perpetrators.
