THE DISTRICT commissioner of the SAPS in ZF Mgcawu, Major-General Monica Sebili, has commended the exceptional teamwork demonstrated by police officers during high-intensity Festive Season operations that concluded across the district on January 31.

According to Northern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Omphile Masegela, the SAPS in the ZF Mgcawu District carried out disruptive actions that led to significant successes in tackling crime.

Clustered police stations launched roadblocks and vehicle checkpoints (VCPs) to combat transnational crimes, conducting extensive stop-and-search operations. These efforts extended to targeted raids on suspected drug dens and liquor outlets, resulting in the confiscation of dagga and mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R107,212, as well as illicit liquor worth R16,355.

Multiple arrests were also made for various offences, including drug dealing, driving under the influence, possession of dangerous weapons, illegal possession of military uniforms, and possession of stolen copper cables valued at R13,800. Additionally, compliance inspections led to the arrest of nine undocumented individuals under the Immigration Act.

Sergeant Masegela emphasised that these robust crime-combating efforts will continue, ensuring that law enforcement remains relentless in disrupting criminal activities across the district.
