THE SOUTH South African Womens Lawyers Association (Sawla) and the Gender Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) secretariat held a wreath laying ceremony at the house where Danielle van der Linde was brutally murdered in Florianville, on Friday.

The bail hearing of Aldean Wilkinson who was arrested in connection with her murder, continued in the Kimberley Magistrate’s court on Friday.

Van der Linde was ten weeks pregnant at the time of her death.

The Shaine Griqua Foundation delivered a message of support while members of SAPS also attended the ceremony.

Provincial convenor of the Progressive Professionals Forum and gender based violence activist, Gregory Nyongone, said Sawla national president Nomaswazi Shabangu-Mndawe highlighted the brutality of the murder and how the deceased’s children would have to grow up without a mother.

“The Speaker of Sol Plaatje municipality Nomazizi Maputle said that they were committed in the fight against gender based violence as well as towards fixing floodlights and darkly lit areas where crimes against women were prevalent,” he added.
