A 23-year-old Northern Cape woman was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment, suspended for five years, after attacking and stabbing her 18-year-old brother at their home in Noordkamp, Keimoes.
A 23-YEAR-OLD woman, Jo-Ann Coetzee, was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment after she attacked and stabbed her 18-year-old brother at their home in Noordkamp, Keimoes.
Northern Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock said the incident occurred when the brother tried to intervene in a fight between his sister and their mother.
“On November 25, 2023, the accused was fighting with her mother at their house when the brother was called to intervene. The accused threw beer in her brother’s face and stabbed him in the chest and back. She was subsequently arrested and sentenced for attempted murder on October 30, 2024, to six years, suspended for five years, by the Kakamas Magistrate’s Court. She was also declared unfit to possess a firearm,” Kock explained.
He added that the investigating officer was praised for securing the sentence.
“The SAPS management lauded Detective Sergeant TZ Mohutsiwa of the Kakamas Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit for her thorough investigation that led to the conviction.
“The police in the Northern Cape continue to display zero-tolerance towards domestic violence and are committed to bringing the perpetrators thereof to justice,” Kock concluded.
