Woman gets 16 years for killing her boyfriend, assaulting his alleged lover

A 35-year-old woman, Marope Lenah Molale was sentenced to 16 years imprisonment by the Northern Cape High Court for the murder of her boyfriend and for the assault on a woman she accused the man of having an affair with.

Police spokesperson, Captain Olebogeng Tawana said the incident occured at Dipela Shanties in Windsorton on July 20, 2020.

“During the court proceedings, it came to light that on the day of the incident, the accused confronted the woman who allegedly had an affair with her boyfriend and stabbed her in the eye with a tablespoon. Subsequent to that, she proceeded to the boyfriend’s house and confronted him. During the confrontation, the accused stabbed the boyfriend in the chest. The boyfriend died on the scene as a result of his injuries,” said Tawana.

He said the accused was sentenced to 14 years for the murder and a further two years for the assault.

“The accused was sentenced to two for assault to do grievous bodily harm (GBH) and 14 years for the second charge, which was murder. The sentences were order to run concurrently,” he said.

Tawana added the Northern Cape police management welcomed the sentence and praised the investigating officer for excellent investigative work.
