FESTIVAL attendees of the first ever Yonder Hartfees indicated they are looking forward to next year’s event.

Thousands of attendees made their way to the festival ground at the Yonder Centre for Adults with Intellectual Disability over the weekend.

The festival started on Thursday and was open until yesterday afternoon. It offered a variety of family entertainment ranging from merry-go-rounds, jumping castles, music shows to about 130 market stalls.

Attendees said they were thoroughly entertained by everything that was on offer. Parents with young children said they were spoiled with entertainment.

“We have limited entertainment for our children on weekends in the city. We are always searching for festivals that include entertainment for the entire family and always support such events when it is offered in the city.

“This festival was very relaxing and the children enjoyed the rides tremendously,” parents interviewed by the DFA said.

Another festival attendee said the Hartsfees had just enough entertainment to satisfy everyone.

“What is different is that one is not bombarded by the same things. The stalls had a variety of things to offer while at other festival hundreds of stalls are selling the same things,” she said.

Young people indicated that they enjoyed the more competitive entertainment. “The tug-of-war competition with South Africa’s Strong Man was fun. We got to test our muscles,” they said.

The smaller festival-goers said they enjoyed the food and the rides. “There was a merry-go-round, jumping castles and train rides”

The CEO of Yonder, Jannie van Zyl, said the aim is to make the festival an annual event.
