NO OFFICIAL information or communication has been received from the Sol Plaatje Municipality regarding the water situation in the city which gave residents no chance to prepare or stock up on water.

This is, however, what is known at this stage:

The problem is at Riverton with muddy water due to the recent floods and opening of sluice gates on dams upstream. This has resulted in only two pumps being used to supply water to Newton Reservoirs as the filtration process is longer.

The reservoir was shut off on Friday night whilst only pumping to the 23ML to enable a satisfactory level in order to restore the water supply this morning.

No guarantees were given that the reservoir would have reached a sufficient level needed to open the water supply lines this morning, but as soon as the level is high enough, the water supply will be opened for approximately 3 hours and switched off again to allow the levels to rise again.

Although no official information has been forthcoming from the Sol Plaatje Municipality, it would appear that the city is in that 3 hour period where water is being supplied.
