Repairs are complete and water is pumping.
The water supply is currently being restored to Kimberley.
The Sol Plaatje Municipality has just confirmed that work on the problematic pipe near the new mental hospital has been completed and the water supply is being restored.
Municipal spokesperson, Sello Matsie, urged residents, however, to be patient. “It will take a bit of time to flood the entire system,” Matsie said.
Residents throughout the city can expect water by tomorrow morning. Matsie explained that Galeshewe and Roodepan would be the first to receive water by the early hours of tomorrow morning. “It will take a few hours to flood the system and increase the pressure before pumping from the Newton Reservoir to the high-lying areas can commence.”
He thanked the public for their co-operation and added the municipality’s apologies to the education and business sectors as well as members of the community for the delay. “A special thank you must go to the businesses that assisted and teams that worked on the 25 different sites involved in this exercise. The inconvenience is highly regrettable but it forms part of our overall objective to improve the infrastructure.”
