AS TEAMS from the Sol Plaatje municipality have been working tirelessly to repair air valves and leaks on the Kimberley water pipeline system, the municipality indicated that it had suffered deliberate vandalism to its jojo tanks.

The Sol Plaatje Municipality interrupted the water supply to Kimberley from June 24 to conduct repair work. It has indicated that the work should be completed by June 27 and supply to the city should start soon after.

The municipality has provided jojo tanks in several areas in order to assist residents who might need water.

Municipal spokesperson, Sello Matsie said some jojo tanks have, however, been vandalised.

“We have about 200 jojo water tanks that have been distributed throughout the city. Sadly we have about five jojo tanks that have been deliberately damaged in Homestead, De Beers and Florianville areas. Mobile water tankers are being used to service all identified areas. We call on the community to assist in the safeguarding of these properties,” said Matise.

He said repair work is progressing smoothly.

“We are working in a total number of 28 areas. Work has been completed in some areas.

“Air valves, including the scour valve, has been replaced and some of the repair work on the leaks are also complete. Work is progressing,” he said.
