THE CITY’S water supply is expected to be restored as soon as the Newton Reservoir has been filled up.

Sol Plaatje Municipality spokesperson Thoko Riet said work was completed at all sites on Sunday afternoon, without any delays.

“Riverton plant has been restarted and the team is opening valves to fill the system first,” said Riet.

“It normally takes about six hours for the system to recharge. Areas getting water from the mainline will get water first and those getting water from Newton will get water later.”

Riet advised residents to keep their taps closed to avoid accidental flooding of homes once the water was restored.
