As city temperatures are expected to soar over the weekend, a scheduled water shutdown is planned from November 22 to 24 to repair six leaks on the 600mm pipeline and conduct maintenance on the Midstation valves in Roodepan.
AS TEMPERATURES in the city are expected to soar this weekend, a scheduled water shutdown will take place from November 22 to 24 to repair various leaks and valves in Roodepan.
Sol Plaatje Municipality spokesperson Thabo Mothibi said low water pressure would be experienced in Roodepan and Galeshewe from 10pm on Friday until 10pm on Sunday.
He added that repairs would be conducted to the Midstation valves as well as to the 600mm diameter pipeline.
“The water supply interruption will affect Sunset Manor, Legaeng, Lethabo Park and Jacksonville in Roodepan, as well as some areas in Galeshewe. Residents are encouraged to store water,” said Mothibi.
He stated further that emergency water supplies would be available at key accessible locations while roving water trucks would be in operation during the scheduled repair work.
Mothibi added that “intensified” water supply interruptions would continue in Ritchie due to the abstraction pump that was failing to draw water from the Riet River.
“The municipality’s mechanical engineering unit at the workshop in Kimberley is currently busy with repairs,” he said.
He noted that some areas were likely to experience very low pressure.
“Water tankers will supply water from 5am until 2pm and again from 6pm until 9pm. The inconvenience caused by the delay in supply is regretted,” Mothibi said.
