VOLUNTEER firefighters, farmers and residents came together to battle a blaze that threatened Vanderkloof on Tuesday afternoon.

The Vanderkloof volunteer firefighting team received a call about a significant fire in the area at around 1pm on Tuesday.

The fire had apparently started at a local dumping site and grew quickly and spread widely due to the extremely strong winds that were blowing.

The volunteer firefighting team called on Agri-Forum for help and they, in turn, enlisted the aid of farmers from Orania, Philipstown, and Petrusville.

The fire completely destroyed the surrounding area of Vanderkloof and the fight was on to save the town.

Joined by the entire neighbourhood, the firefighters managed to successfully put out the fire by around 9pm on Tuesday night.
