ROAD users have been cautioned about uncontrolled veld fires between Vryburg and Schweizer-Reneke, where the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality Fire Disaster Management team brought a devastating fire under control on September 5.
The head of communications at the district municipality, Joseph Motlhasedi, said the disaster management chopper was sent to the site as the fire destroyed farming camps and wildlife grazing land.
“The fire spread through Mamusa and was heading to Amalia and Myra. The district municipality dispatched the team in the area in order to ensure that it does not engulf infrastructure.”
Motlhasedi added that heavy smoke could make driving conditions difficult.
