AN UPINGTON taxi driver was arrested for the possession of protected plants.

According to police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock, the police spotted a suspicious-looking taxi with a trailer filled with bags.

“The vigilance of Sergeant Riet and Constable Hans from the Upington Magistrate’s Court netted a male taxi driver for illegal possession of protected plants on Friday,” said Kock.

“The policemen spotted a suspicious-looking taxi with a trailer filled with bags and immediately stopped and searched it. The passengers confirmed that the bags belonged to the driver, hence he was arrested by the SAPS.”
