The Roodepan police are conducting an inquest into the death of a 73-year-old Roodepan grandfather, who went missing on August 16.
THE ROODEPAN police are conducting an inquest into the death of 73-year-old Richard Samuel Steenkamp, who went missing on August 16.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock reported that Steenkamp’s body was discovered in the veld on a farm near Roodepan by an employee on Wednesday, September 4, at around 10am.
“His body was identified by his family and no foul play is suspected at this stage. However, an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death,” Kock stated.
The police have requested that anyone with information regarding the case contact Detective Captain Deon Rheeder on 082 469 0681 or Detective Sergeant Mojalefa Setlai on 082 495 4625. The investigation is ongoing.
Steenkamp’s family had previously made a heartfelt plea for assistance in locating him after he was last seen leaving his home on August 16.

Melinda Macatees, his daughter, said that he had left his cellphone at home and was last seen heading towards the Ivory Park settlement.
“He was wearing a black and white Orlando Pirates T-shirt, black tracksuit pants, blue and white striped Adidas sandals with white and black socks. He is about 1.6 meters tall. We are worried about him as he suffers from Alzheimer’s. We have been searching for him without any success since last week,” Macatees said at the time.
Lieutenant-Colonel Kock also noted that Steenkamp was last seen at the C-Block shanties in Freezia Street, Ivory Park, Roodepan.
