The incident took place in Kagisho near Galeshewe in January 2018 when the accused saw his niece who was 13 at the time sleeping in her bedroom, and raped her.
A 48-YEAR-OLD man was sentenced in the Galeshewe regional court to 18 years imprisonment for raping his niece.
Police spokesperson, Captain Olebogeng Tawana said on Monday that the incident took place in Kagisho near Galeshewe in January 2018 when the accused saw his niece who was 13 at the time sleeping in her bedroom, and raped her.
“The father of the girl entered the bedroom and caught the uncle red-handed while he was busy raping her. The uncle managed to break loose and flee the scene. He was arrested shortly after the matter was reported to the police.”
The Northern Cape police management welcomed the sentence and commended the investigating officer, Constable Beverley Matlhale for her dedication and investigative work.
