UDF GENERAL Secretary, anti-apartheid activist and former SA high commissioner in London, Cheryl Carolus will be the guest speaker at a dialogue that will be held in the Lady Oppenheimer Hall at the McGregor Museum on Wednesday as part of the UDF@40 Northern Cape Chapter Women’s Day celebrations, starting at 1pm.
UDF@40 co-ordinator William Steenkamp said the topic of discussion was finding sustainable solutions to the ongoing challenges, threats, dangers, misery, discrimination and grossly unfair treatment women encounter daily.
“We cannot sustain the insurmountable nightmares our women are subjected to every day. We need to celebrate and honour our women to express our appreciation and pay our respects,” said Steenkamp.
“We are privileged to have as our special guest the current executive chairperson of Peotona Group Holdings, a women-owned company with assets in resources and infrastructure feeder industries.
“She is a member of the executive committee of the International Crisis Group and in 2013 was appointed as a trustee of the British Museum.
“She also holds non-executive positions on several boards, including De Beers Consolidated Mines Limited, Fenner Conveyor Belting, Macsteel Service Centres SA, IQ Business, Investec Ltd and Investec PLC. She chairs a number of charity foundation boards.”
Steenkamp added that the programme included visits to Lerato Place of Safety and Resthaven Old Age Home and the laying of a wreath in Du Toitspan Road where a woman was murdered in 1899.
