TWO SUSPECTS who have been linked to a spate of business robberies were arrested after they allegedly stole items to the value of R400,000 from a jewellery store in Kimberley on Sunday.

Police spokesperson Captain Olebogeng Tawana said the suspects were armed.

“They were found in possession of more than R400,000 worth of jewellery that was looted from the jewellery store in Kimberley,” said Tawana.

“The vehicle which the suspects used in the commission of the alleged crime, as well as a firearm, was confiscated.

“The suspects are linked to spate of business and armed robberies in the Northern Cape and Free State.”

Tawana stated that the suspects were arrested during a multi-disciplinary law enforcement operation that included the Eyes and Ears initiative (E2), SAPIS/Syntell Agri, the Kimberley Flying Squad, Free State Flying Squad and Northern Cape Provincial Organised Crime Detectives.

He said the suspects are expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

“The matter will later be transferred to the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court where the suspects will appear on a charge of business robbery.”
